16 May Estonia Sampler
Back in April Smikkelbaard found themselves at the brilliant and forward-thinking and multi-dimensional Tallinn Music Week. So blown away were we by all the talent on show there, we thought we’d have to bring at least a tiny flavour back to you in this sampler. We picked three acts that reflected our stay in that beautiful city; sounds that were uncompromising, beautiful and utterly spaced out. Eeter are possibly the most exciting young act we’ve seen in ages (trippy folk in a headlong collision with the most post-ambient depth charge drone imaginable), Ekke is a High Wizard of electroacoustic space, and Estoner drag the loudest, dirtiest Baltic sludge all over your pristine fake-fur carpet. And yowsa, one piece from Ekke is actually a recording of Tallinn filtered through his own inimitable psychicke mind-map, and not heard much before – until now.
We could have added names to this sampler like Maarja Nuut (soundcloud.com/maarja-nuut | bound to be a massive star) Henri Hütt (soundcloud.com/henrihytt), Kerttu soundcloud.com/kerttuk), Three Leg Dog (soundcloud.com/three-leg-dog), Sädelev Kass (soundcloud.com/shinycat), Grateful Dad (soundcloud.com/grateful-d-d), or E Orkester. It seems that every Estonian musician is either a genius OR a lunatic or both! Enjoy, and check everything out.
